KSO demands compensation for damage to civilians
Imphal, May 4 (UNI) The Kuki Students' Organisation(KSO) has urged the Manipur government to prodive relief to those people whose houses were destroyed during encounters between rebels and the secuerity forces in the state.
The United National Liberation Front(UNLF) and the troops were locked in heavy gun battle, for the past few months, as the border areas were controlled by the outfit.
The KSO claimed that four houses were completely burnt on May 1 last during a gun fight at T Nampao Village in Chandel District. It also condemned the activities of the ultras for using the deserted houses as their base camps. ''Seven villages have been deserted in the past few months due to threats posed by landmines and unlawful activities,'' he added.
The KSO urged the Government to immediately compensate the damage caused. "It is a failure on the part of the Government that the people here feel insecure,'' he added.
