Kidnapped bamboo supplier released

Silchar, May 4 (UNI) A bamboo supplier to the Cachar Paper Mill of Hindustan Paper Corporation, kidnapped by suspected militants, was released yesterday, police said here today.

The supplier, Subash Dhar (40), was abducted by the militants at gunpoint on April two from Karkhana-Putni area in Karimganj district of south Asom and had demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh.

The victim was freed from Dinanathpur village in Hailakandi district near Asom-Mizoram border late last night, police said.

According to police four persons accompanied the victim in a car and fled soon after leaving him in the village.

Police later escorted the paper mill employee to his Karimganj home the same night.
