Kalam likely to visit Yanam
Puducherry, May 4 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam is likely to visit the Yanam region of the union territory by the end of this month or early next month,Puducherry minister for tourism Malladi Krishna Rao said here today.
Talking to mediapersons he said he had invited the President to Yanam for the 'Bhoomi Pooja' for the construction of the ''Eiffel tower'' in the region, to declare Yanam as 100 percent literate and to inaugurate a students' seminar.
Mr Rao said he will be visiting New Delhi for five days immediately after the conclusion of the budget session of the territorial assembly tomorrow and would call on the President to fix his date for the visit.
He said he would also meet the Prime Minister, Home minister and the Tourism minister to get sanctions for the execution of several pending works here.
He said a park on a site of about 20 acres was also being set up.
A priavte industry would construct a 100 m high 'Eiffel tower'' similar to the one in Paris. This is to reassert the French connection here,he added.
The minister said the administration proposed to construct a government guest house at Tirumala, for which the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had agreed to provide one acre of land.
