Govt's green signal for Interim Master Plan

Bangalore, May 4 (UNI) The Karnataka Government today notified the ''Interim Master Plan'' prepared by the Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority (BMRDA) to develop five towns around the city.

In the wake of rapid development around the city, the government had asked BMRDA to prepare an interim plan to develop Anekal, Nelamangala, Magadi and Kanakapura towns near the state capital to enable uniform development of nearly 2,600 sq km area coming under the five towns, comprising 1,100 villages with 8,00,000 population.

This comes in the wake of spiralling of real estate prices around the Bangalore city and subsequent increase in unauthorised layouts and constructions. The government had banned development of new layouts which was protested by builders who claimed to have invested huge funds in real estate properties.

Talking to newspersons here, BMRDA Commissioner Sudhir Krishna said the Interim Master Plan was gazetted by the government which had called for objections and suggestions by the members of the public within 15 days.

BMRDA would re-submit the interim master plan to the government along with its recommendations on public comments for final approval. The plan would regulate developmental activities of various other authorities and government departments as defined under the Karnataka Town and Country Planning Act.

''We have left 73 per cent of the area under Green Belt and develop the remaining 27 per cent of the area. Of this, residential areas constitute 34 per cent and 30 per cent for industry. The remaining areas would be used for commercial purposes, parks, public amenities traffic and transport,'' he added.
