Government to go by court order: Basu

Kolkata, May 4 (UNI) The Left Front Government would go by the directives of the Calcutta High Court to bring back normalcy in strife-torn Nandigram, veteran CPI(M) leader Jyoti Basu today said.

''The Government will act in accordance with the High Court directives,'' he said after attending a CPI (M) state secretariat meeting.

The Calcutta High court yesterday directed the government to ensure normal life in Nandigram and provide succour to the victims of the continued violence, now sheltered in different camps.

As the state Government submitted a status report, the court observed that the situation in the area was very serious and prima facie it appeared that the people had been denied fundamental rights under Article 21.

In reply to a question on the attack on a group of intellectuals allegedly by CPI (M) supporters at Nandigram, Mr Basu regretted the incident. ''It is very bad. I do not know who has done this,'' he said.
