Five dead, several injured in clash over land

Guwahati, May 4 (UNI) At least five people were killed and several injured, during a clash over a land dispute at Nalbari in lower Asom today.

Police said two rival parties clashed over a land dispute at Soria village under Mukalmua police station in Nalbari district this evening.

Though the confrontation was verbal initially, both parties resorted to lethal weapons and firing, leading to the killing of at least five people, according to preliminary reports.

Gangsters from Bamunimaidam in Guwahati were also involved in the incident, police said.

Over ten people were injured in the clash.

Three of them were rushed to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital in serious condition.

A police official said five bodies had been recovered so far, and hinted that the casualty could be more.

Senior police officials had rushed to the spot.

Details were still awaited.
