FIR against MLA for torching a Pradhan's house

Lucknow, May 4 (UNI) In post poll violence in the parliamentary constituency of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Samajwadi Party supporters torched the house of a BSP supporter and Gram Pradhan at Phula village under Tiloi assembly seat in Rai Bareli district late last night, police said today.

Police said that criminal cases has been registered against seven people including an expelled BJP MLA Mayankaswar Sharan Singh for the incident and five people have been arrested so far.

The MLA, who is the Samajwadi Party candidate from the seat, is evading arrest.

Meanwhile, Election Commission has taken serious note of the incident and has directed the district authorities to take stern action against the culprits.

Reports said the MLA, along with his supporters, attacked the house of the pradhan Man Singh and torched the double-storied building. However, nobody was injured in the incident.

The SP candidate was annoyed with the pradhan, following his support to the BSP candidate Dinesh Singh, in the polling held in the constituency on April 28.

Senior police and civil officials including the Police Superintendent and Sub-divisional Magistrate, are camping on the spot along with additional police forces.

Tiloi assembly segement is a part of the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat, when Ms Gandhi represents.
