Easterlies, overcast sky bring coolness in air for Delhi

New Delhi, May 4 (UNI) For the second day this week, cool Easterly winds and an overcast sky lent a cool air to the weather in Delhi, bringing relief to the people from the scorching summer heat.

The clouds and thundery winds this morning plummetted the maximum temperature to 36.5 Degree Celsius, two degrees below normal, from 39.4 Degree C yesterday.

The winds, which set off due to the northwards movement of a depression over Eastcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman Sea, lent a cool air to the weather in Delhi which has, for the last one week, been reeling under a severe heat wave.

It was the second day in the week that cool winds brought about respite for Delhiites from the scorching heat.

Light rains, accompanied by a strong breeze, on Wednesday, led to a drop in mercury to 32.3 Degree Celsius, a seven degree drop from 40.5 Degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

The relief from heat could persist for another day or two with the weathermen forecasting more thundery development over Delhi and other plains of Northwest India during the next 24 hours.

''Current meteorological analysis suggests isolated to scattered rain or thundershowers activity over plains of Northwest India and East Uttar Pradesh during the next 48 hours,'' they said.

Consequently, day temperatures are likely to remain near normal over plains of Northwest India during the same period,''the weather office said.

The met office has forecast a partly cloudy sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours with the possibility of thundery development accompanied by squall in some areas.

They have also forecast a maximum temperature of 38 Degree C tomorrow.
