Duped by travel agent, farmer commits suicide

Hoshiarpur, May 4 (UNI) A farmer youth allegedly duped by a travel agent committed suicide by consuming pesticides in Sarangwal village of this district, police today said.

According to the police sources, a so-called travel agent Tejinder Singh alias Mangi had allegedly taken Rs 6.75 lakh from Mohinder Singh for sending his son Paramjit Singh to Spain about one-and-a-half years ago.

Instead of sending Paramjit to Spain, the said travel agent sent him to some other country where he went through a harrowing time but managed to return back with the financial help and support extended by Balwant Singh Ramoowalia, President of the Lok Bhalai Party.

Later when both father and son asked Tejinder Singh to return their money, the travel agent blankly refused to do so during a recent meeting.

A frustrated Paramjit who had gone to the fields for spraying pesticides, allegedly consumed some of the poisonous substance himeself.

He was admitted in the Civil Hospital, Hoshiarpur where he breathed his last this morning.

The police have registered a case in this connection.
