DMK seeks aid for agitation victims

Puducherry, May 4: Mr R Siva (DMK) today urged the government to take steps for providing financial assistance to families of those killed and maimed during the anti-merger agitations here.

Making a special mention in the House during the Zero Hour, Mr Siva claimed two persons were killed and seven maimed during the agitation.

Two of the injured had already died, he said adding the families were languishing in poverty and the government should announce some relief to them.

In his special mention, Mr S P Sivakumar (DMK) alleged widespreaded irregularities in the valuation of papers, particulary those of the Pondicherry Engineering College, by the Pondicherry University.

He said the results were causing concern and added several bright students got very less marks clearly showing the paper valuation was not taken in a serious manner.

Already an engineering student had committed suicide and to ensure such things did not reccur, the administration should intervene.

Mr J Narayansamy (Ind), in his special mention, urged the administration to take steps to stop sand smuggling from Puducherry.

He said the sand lorries, in a bid to reach Tamil Nadu area to avoid action from the authorities, were driving in a rash manner causing fatal accidents.

However, no reply was given to the special mentions from the government side.
