Dandavate can be a role model for new MPs : Speaker

New Delhi, May 4 (UNI) Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee today paid rich tributes to eminent Parliamentarian and former Union Minister Madhu Dandavate, describing him as a role model for the junior and new members of the Lok Sabha.

"Late Mr Dandavate was a remarkable Parliamentarian with a socialistic inclination who through his relentless struggle both within and outside Parliament, always upheld and served the poor and vulnerable sections of society with utmost sincerty of purpose,"the Speaker said, releasing a book entitled,"Madhu Dandavate in Parliament :A Commemorative Volume" in Parliament Library Building here.

Mr Chatterjee said in the public positions which he Mr Dandavate held either as a Union Minister or as Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, it always remained his endevaour to ensure how the common man was going to be benefitted by the Government's polices and programmes.

The Speaker recalled that," Prof Dandavate always spoke facts and figures in the House interspersed with humour and he not only endeared himself to different sections of the House but can also be described as a role model for junior and new members of the Lok Sabha." The function was attended among others by NCP President and Union Minister Sharad Pawar, Opposition Leader L K Advani and former Prime Minister I K Gujral.

The book brought out by the Lok Sabha Secretariat contains articles on Prof Dandavate by dignitaries, his speeches in Parliament, some of his own writings and his brief profile.
