Corporator collects garbage, sets fire

Guntur, May 4 (UNI) A municipal corporator today desilted the gutters at the 34th division in the city, collected the accumulated garbage bought it to the Municipal Corporation office in a tricycle, and set fire to it to protest the Administration's dereliction of duty.

Hundreds of residents accomapnied the corporator V Sriramprasad.

As smoke and ash enveloped the areas, the Corporation officials infomred the police, who whisked away Mr Sriramprasad to the police station amidst protest from the people.

Garbage in some parts of the city had accumulated as sanitary workers hired by private contractors had been abstaining from duty demanding pay hikes.

The Corporators told reporters that his appeals to the Municipal Corporation Administration to make alternative arrangements had fallen on deaf ears.

The indolent workers set fire to the garbge at every street corner in the city polluting the environment.
