Cong will emerge as single largest party in UP: Tanwar

Hyderabad, May 4 (UNI) All India Youth Congress Committee President Ashok Tanwar today expressed the hope that his party would win majority of the seats in Uttar Pradesh.

Addressing a press conference here, he said people of the state wanted a change as they were vexed with the Mulayam Singh Yadav government, which was ''steeped in corruption, criminalisation and caste politics.'' As Congress was in a better position, it would emerge as the single largest party in UP, he claimed, adding the people of the state wanted a 'corrupt-free and pro-people' government.

On the campaign by TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu and former Tamil Nadu chief minister and AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa in Uttar Pradesh in favour of the Samajwadi Party, he said it would not have any impact on the election result.

Mr Tanwar, who extensively toured UP for 34 days covering 7,000 km, said the Youth Congress had taken several measures to strengthen the party at the grassroots level.

While membership drive of the party would be launched from July this year, training programmes would be conducted for party workers in a big way throughout the country. The Youth Congress workers would play a dominant role in ensuring that the welfare programmes of the UPA government and Congress governments in the states to the reached the people, he added.

All India Youth Congress General Secretary Sushant appealed the Youth Congress workers to strive hard to strengthen the party and highlight the policies of the government to the people to win their confidence.

Both Mr Tanwar and Mr Susant are here to participate in the concluding programme of the Rajiv Yuva Chaitanya Yatra today, orgainsed by the State Youth Congress President T J R Sudhakar Babu.
