Commemorative run for Military World Games

Chandigarh, May 4 (UNI) As a precursor to the 4th CISM Military World Games 2007, which are scheduled to be held at Hyderabad in October this year, the Western Command is organising a Commemorative Run in the city here on May 13 to mark '150 Days To The Military World Games'.

Carrying the message of 'Friendship through Sports', the Run is being organised to create awareness about this mega event amongst the people of this area. Earlier, such a run was held at New Delhi along with 24 other cities across the country on March 27 to mark 200 days to the Games.

The Run would be conducted in three categories--10-Km run for professional runners (open category), 5-Km run for school children and NCC Cadets and 1.5-Km run for all invitees and those who would like to take part. Besides the Run on May 13, a number of other adventure activities have also been planned including skydiving, which promises to provide a unique visual treat to the people of the city.

The participants for the 10 km and 5 km run will assemble at the Punjab and Haryana Secretariat by 0545 hours and for the 1.5 km event all invitees will assembly at Sukhna lake at 0630 hours.

The 4th Military World Games will be held at Hyderabad from October 14 to 21. All events will be held at Hyderabad, except sailing and triathlon, which will be conducted at Mumbai.

About 6000 athletes and officials from over 127 member countries are expected to participate in the games, which makes it an event ranking next only to the Olympics, both in terms of magnitude and stature. It is for the first time that an Asian country is hosting the Games.

The earlier three Games were held at Rome (Italy), Zagreb (Croatia) and Catania (Italy) in 1995, 1999 and 2003 respectively.

The Games are conducted under the aegis of International Military Sports Council, popularly known as CISM(Conseil International Du Sports Militaire), which is an international sports association recognised by the International Olympic Committee.
