CM holds review meeting on law and order situation

Hyderabad, May 4 (UNI) The Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy held a review meeting on general law and order situation in the state with the Home Minister and top police officials here today.

Regarding the passport scam issue, the Chief Minister enquired about the latest position with the police officials and also the actions initiated. He said the state government would not hesitate to take stringent action against those involved in the scam.

However he cautioned the police to act only against concrete evidence, lest innocent people's image would be unnecessarily tarnished. The police told the Chief Minister that they were waiting for the full facts.

Regarding the Gujarat encounter case, the Chief Minister wanted to know about the reports on Andhra Pradesh police involvement. He told that the Andhra Pradesh police was waiting for the details from the Gurajat government and if any involvement of Andhra Pradesh police was alleged, then the government could act accordingly.

The Chief Minister said if necessary the Andhra Pradesh government would seek a CBI probe into the issue. The state government would not hesitate to take action against anyone who was found quilty, the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister said the police would recruit the necessary police force. He said additional integrated housing complex should be built in the city for Ministers, IPS officers and senior officers so that security could be integrated.

The Chief Minister who reviewed in detail about the road accidents asked the Chief Secretary to work out modalities for strengthening the road safety authority with more powers to prevent road accidents.
