Chandy demands all party meet on baby deaths
Thiruvananthapuram, May 4 (UNI) Opposition leader in the Kerala Assembly Oommen Chandy today asked Chief Minister to convene an all-party meeting in the wake of reports of deaths of new born babies at the state-run Sree Avittam Tirunal (SAT) hospital.
A meeting should be convened soon for discussing the various problems and crisis in the health sector, he said in an open letter to Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan.
Demanding compensation to the bereaved families Mr Chandy wanted strict action be taken against those involved in it.
Mr Chandy asked the government to take immediate steps to fill the several vacant posts in government hospitals.
Meanwhile, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee President Ramesh Chennithala demanded the resignation of Health Minister P K Sreemathi.
He also asked the government to provide compensation to each family, who lost their children.
At least 38 new born babies have died of alleged hospital-acquired infection at the premier state-run SAT hospital during the past four months.
