Bus falls into well: 3 crushed to death

Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, May 4 (UNI) Three people, including a three-year-old Boy, were crushed to death and 24 others injured when a state Transport Corporation bus in which they were travelling fell and got stuck into a roadside well at S Paraipatti here today.

Police said the mishap occurred when the front axle of the bus, carrying 50 passengers from Madurai to Coimbatore, broke and the driver lost control of the vehicle.

Two of the victims were identified as P Shantha (22) and her brother's son Vijayaraghavan (three) of Reddiyarpatti near Kannivadi. Both were seated in the front seat. The other deceased, a 40-year-old man, who drowned, was yet to be identified.

Seven of the passengers were thrown into the well, of whom six escaped with injuries. All the injured were being treated at the Government Hospital here.

Police and Revenue Officials rushed to the spot and carried out rescue operations. The bus was lifted with the assistance of cranes and fire service personnel.
