Akalis remind Amarinder of 'vendetta politics'

Chandigarh, May 4 (UNI) Taking a dig at Capt Amarinder Singh's repeated accusations that the ruling alliance was indulging in a ''political vendetta,''three senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders sought to remind the former Chief Minister of the manner in which the Badal family and Akali leaders and workers were ''terrorised'' during Congress rule.

''A man, who during his five years' rule, had mobilised all legal and illegal resources with the sole purpose of putting Akalis behind bars and to teach the Badals a lesson, was now talking of vendetta politics,'' the three leaders --, Des Raj Dhugga, Jagdip Nakai and Nand Lal -- all of whom are Chief Parliamentary Secretaries, (CPSs) said in a joint statement here today.

Terming the former Chief Minister as a 'deserter' who had fled the country when the Congress lost the elections, they said on his return, he was now raising the bogey of political vendetta to sidestep vital issues concerning the state.

In the statement, they claimed that Capt Singh had no moral right to shed crocodile tears for Ministers and MLAs for whom he himself never bothered to meet during his tenure. ''The hoarse cry by the defeated Captain was to scuttle the issue of corruption which was endemic during his regime,'' they said.

The call of vendetta, at least, does not behove a person who made a mockery of law with the single aim to suppress the Akalis, they added.
