Ailing Chandra Shekhar stable

New Delhi, May 4 (UNI) The condition of former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar, undergoing cancer treatment in a city hospital, is critical but stable.

Doctors attending on him at Apollo Hospital said Mr Chandra Shekhar (80) has been in the hospital for over a month for treatment of multiple myeloma cancer, the cancer of the plasma cells.

The president of the Samjawadi Janata Party (Rashtriya) is responding satisfactorily to treatment, Apollo Hospital spokesperson Dr Karan Thakur said.

Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat visited Mr Chandra Shekhar at the hospital today.

Multiple Myeloma is a cancer of the plasma cells, an important part of the immune system, that produce antibodies to help fight infection and disease.

A team of experts is treating the former Prime Minister.
