AAPSU demands ILP for refugees

Itanagar, May 4 (UNI) Renewing its crusade against the refugee imbroglio, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) has demanded that the state government introduce Inner Line Permit (ILP) for the Chakma, Hajong and Tibetan refugees in the state.

The apex students' body of the state spearheading the refugee movement in the state for the past few decades opined that the cards granted by the Centre for these refugees were not sufficient and they should possess ILP.

Addressing a press conference here today, AAPSU president Kanu Bagang said the union had recently unanimously adopted several resolutions, which were placed before state Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu yesterday during a meeting.

The demand included deportation of the refugees, blanket ban on issuance of ST certificates to refugees, revival of sick cooperative apex bank among other things.

He further informed that the union had issued a deadline of five months for the Bank's revival, which the Chief Minister agreed. Moreover, he said, the students' body had demanded immediate settlement of boundary dispute between Asom and Arunachal Pradesh, introduction of Arunachal Pradesh Education Bill, devolution of entire power to panchayat, inter-district road connectivity, infrastructure development of Tirap, Changlang and Bomdila colleges; establishment of science and technology institute at Ziro in Lower Subansiri district and reservation of 80 per cent jobs for Arunachalee in Group A posts.

The union also urged the state government not to encourage private parties except National Hydro Electric Power Corporation and North Eastern Electric Power Corporation for execution of power projects in the state.

Condemning the Army ''atrocities'' on villagers of Medo village in Lohit district in the name of counter-insurgency operation, the AAPSU pleaded the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to seriously view the incident and take corrective measures.
