Villagers resort to road blockade, traffic affected

Puducherry, May 3 (UNI) Vehicular traffic to Cuddalore was badly affected for several hours today as the villagers of Manaveli resorted to a road blockade at Ariyanakuppam near here, to protest against an attack on a person hailing from their village yesterday.

Police said the agitation was called by the villagers to protest against the attack on one Bhaskaran, a native of the village, by few persons.

Following the attack, Bhaskaran had been admitted to Government General Hospital here.

Police had arrested four persons from Veerampatinam in connection with the attack on Bhaskaran.

Meanwhile, police and legislator Anantharaman held talks with the villagers to persuade them to call off their agitation.

Later, in a meeting held to settle the issue, the villagers decided not to intervene in the personal matters of the individuals and not to block vehicles.
