US House fails to overturn Bush veto of Iraq bill
Washington, May 3: The US House of Representatives today failed to overturn President George W Bush's veto of a war-funding bill that would have set a timetable for withdrawing US combat troops from Iraq.
By a vote of 222-203, the House fell far short of the two-thirds support needed to override a presidential veto.
Negotiations between the White House and Congress, and between Democrats and Republicans, were under way in hopes of settling on a new bill to provide around 100 billion dollars more for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan this year.
