UN commends Indian force in Congo
New Delhi, May 3 (UNI) The United Nations has commended the performance and dedication of the 125-member Indian Formed Police Unit (IFPU) deployed in support of its Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo during a recent wave of violence in the capital Kinshasa.
All the personnel of the IFPU were from the Border Security Force (BSF).
''The UN Secretariat has expressed its appreciation for the outstanding work performed by the IFPU,'' a Home Ministry official said, while pointing out that the Indian personnel had ''extracted'' from life-threatening situations over 100 individuals, including UN staff, members of the diplomatic community as well as civilians.
''Their professional competence has been recognised among the representatives of the international community in Kinshasa, as well as at all levels within the United Nations,'' the official said.
