Three arrested for attempting to smuggle rice to Karnataka
Kancheepuram, May 3 (UNI) Three people, including a lorry driver were arrested at Vedal in Chennai-Bangalore National Highway today for trying to smuggle 450 bags of rice to Karnataka.
Police said acting on information from the District Police Superintendent A Amalraj, a team led by the National Highway police Sub Inspector Jayalabudin intercepted the vehicle, nabbed them and seized the rice bags.
The accused were identified as Gopinath(30), lorry driver, his brother Gajendran(25) and Shankar(25) rice broker.
They were remanded to judicial custody for 15 days. The accused bought rice from various ration shops in Poonamalee near here.
Efforts were on to trace another lorry driver Murugan, police added.
