Regional character of RIMS would be maintained

Imphal, May 3 (UNI) The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences(RIMS) has been brought under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare with effect from April 1.

A MoU was signed on recently between the North Eastern Council and the Ministry of Doner and Health and Family Welfare of the Union Government, RIMS officials stated.

Prime Minister Dr Manmohon Singh had directed the transfer of three regional health institutes, namely LGBPIMH, Tezpur, RIMS, Imphal and RIPANS, Aizawl to the Union Government.

A committee headed by Dr S S Sidhu, Governor of Manipur, was constituted and the recommendations were accepted.

The MoU comes into effect from Apri1 1 and RIMS has been taken over by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, from this date.

The regional character of RIMS in seat distribution, autonomy and the two-tier management system shall be maintained, while the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare shall handle all the future upgradation and modernisation, official sources added.
