PCB up against KCP distillery unit
Machilipatnam May 3 (UNI) The AP TRANSCO has cut off the power supply to KCP Distillery Unit following a directive from the Pollution Control Board (PCB).
An ancillary unit of KCP sugar Vuyyuru alleged to have violated PCB norms.
KCP official spokeperson Hari Babu, confirming the disconnection of the power supply told UNI that the distillery was producing 50 kilo liters of alcohol per day while the power consumption was only 0.8 MW.
He said the unit was using high techonology to prevent the pollution.
The former MP Thotla Velluru (ZPTC) R Ramachandra Rao (ZPTC Vuyyuru), had earlier alleged that the unit was causing severe pollution.
The people of Vuyyuru were affected by crop distruction and certain diseases due to this severe pollution, they alleged.
The cattles consuming the borewell water got sick as the molasses from the sugar unit get mixed with ground water.
