No plans to shift Gir lions: CCF

Junagadh, Gujarat, May 3 (UNI) There are no plans to shift lions from the Gir Sanctuary to Madhya Pradesh or elsewhere in the country, according to Chief Conservator of Forests Bharat Pathak.

Quashing some newspaper reports that plans were afoot to shift lions from Gir to Madhya Pradesh or elsewhere, Mr Pathak said he has not received any circular in this regard.

''There are no such plans as far as I know,'' Mr Pathak said reacting to the newspaper reports.

Meanwhile, Junagadh MLA Mashroo, while speaking to UNI yesterday, had warned that the people will resort to an agitation if the Centre tries to shift Gir lions to Madhya Pradesh or some other state.
