No decision on number portability: Minister

New Delhi, May 3 (UNI) The Government today said no decision has been taken on number portability which would allow the mobile user to retain their number while changing service providers.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has submitted its recommendations on mobile number portability in March last year and during the consultation process, some of the stakeholder have stated that it is not the right time to introduce number portability as they will have to incur heavy expenditure on upgradation of their networks/switches for mobile number portability, Minister of State for Communications Shakeel Ahmad said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.

The stakeholders have said that there is enough competition in all license areas and hence the introduction of number portability will have to incur heavy expenditure on network upgradation.
