MPS to get flexible secretarial assistance

New Delhi, May 3 (UNI) The Union Cabinet tonight approved the recommendation of the Joint committee that a member of Parliament could engage any number of persons in Delhi or in his constituency for obtaining secretarial assistance within the total monetary ceiling of Rs 14,000 per month.

However, one of the persons so appointed should be computer literate and the certification of the member to this effect would be sufficient.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi told mediapersons after the meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, that the cabinet gave its approval for making consequential amendments in the Members of Parliament (Office Expense Allowance) Rules 1988.

The amendment would give required flexibility to the members of Parliament in obtaining secretarial assistance.
