Lightning claims three lives, 3 injured

Chennai, May 3 (UNI) Three people, including a woman, were killed on the spot and three others injured in separate incidents of lightning, in several parts of Tamil Nadu today.

Police said, Mrs Irusammal (40) of Latchumapuram village in Tiruvallur district, was killed when lightning struck her while working in a field.

Lightning claimed two more victims-- Mappali (55) was killed at a village near Cudallore in Villupuram district and Samikannu (52) -- while grazing cattle at Keelapuliyur village in Perambalur district.

Karunamoorthy, who was injured in lightning, was admitted to Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital here. He hails from Mosur Colony village in Tiruvallur district.

Ramadoss (16) and Selvaraj (36), injured in a similar mishap, were admitted to Government Headquarters Hospital, Villupuram. They hailed from Kalpattu village in Villupuram district, police added.
