Life crippled in Sopore due to general strike

Baramulla, May 3: Life was crippled in the apple township of Sopore today due to spontaneous strike against the police action on demonstrators who were protesting the death of a child in a road accident.

Shops and other business establishments remained closed and traffic was also off the road. Work in government offices was also affected due to strike.

Yesterday, police fired into the air and bursted teargas shells on the demonstrators.

The demonstrators, set on fire a bus and a police vehicle and damaged two other vehicles, after a child was killed by a speeding vehicle, demanding action against the driver.

The driver has already been arrested by the police.
