Guwahati, May 3 (UNI) The hearing on the Central and Asom governments' affidavits in the Gauhati High Court on 'missing' ULFA cadres remained inconclusive today and the court posted the hearing to May 23.

Newly appointed Chief Justice J Chelameswar and Justice D Biswas heard the proceeding, which was slated for yesterday.

While deputy advocate general T Prasad repreesented the Union Government, the state government's counsel was advocate general Amit Phukan.

The petitioner was represented by advocates Bijan Mahajan and Raju Pradhan.

Wife of an ULFA leader, Shyamoli Gogoi, had moved the court, demanding the whereabouts of her husband and the other ULFA and NDFB cadres, untraced since 'Operation All Clear' by the Royal Bhutan Army on its soil in December, 2003.

Shyamoli and five other wives of 'missing' ULFA leaders had also launched a fast-unto-death fast, pressing for disclosure of their spouses' whereabouts, from March 21. The fast was withdrawn last week following an assurance from the Chief Minister that the government would submit all information to the court.

A two-member bench of the Gauhati High Court of Justice A H Saikia and Justice Hrishikesh Roy had on April 12 directed the Centre to file the affidavit on May 2 after the latter sought more time to do so.

The state government had filed an affidavit, stating that the India and Bhutanese armies had transferred custody of 198 ULFA members, 69 from the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) and 32 of their children to Asom between December 20, 2003, and February 21, 2004.

Earlier on March 30, a division bench had asked for the affidavits to be submitted by April 12. The court had issued the order as it was not satisfied with documents submitted in response to its order on March 13 to furnish information about 'missing' ULFA cadres.
