Gujarat journalists petition CJI
Gandhinagar, May 3 (UNI) Journalists here have urged Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan to intervene against the Gujarat Police's move to bar mediapersons from entering ''Police Bhavan', the police headquarters in Gandhinagar, with respect to the coverage of the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case.
In a memorandum, Journalists have drawn the attention of the CJI to Director General of Police P C Pande's instructions that mediapersons should not be allowed to enter the ''Police Bhavan''.
The memorandum states it is apparent that the police is preventing journalists from carrying out their professional duties in the coverage of the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case.
Given the sensitivity of the case, it seems that the act of the Gujarat DGP is apprently wrong and unconstitutional, and is solely aimed at suppressing truth from coming out in full public view, the memorandum to the CJI states.
