Drugs mafia surrenders in Asom

Dibrugarh, May 3 (UNI) Notorious drugs mafia Ilalhi Sheikh today surrendered before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate here.

Sheikh was wanted under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Act and the Additional CJM has sent him to the district jail.

He had been arrested several times for peddling brown sugar, but had been granted bail on each occasion.

His rapidly expanding racket, especially in Upper Asom and Arunachal Pradesh, had come into focus once again when a private news channel had reported that people were selling their organs to pay for drugs.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, after the television report, had ordered a crackdown on the drug mafia in Upper Asom.
