Cops asked to probe Alistair Pereira's finances
Mumbai, May 3: The Bombay High Court today directed the police to investigate as to how Alistair Pereira, whose car mowed down seven labourers to death, could arrange so soon the Rs five lakh fine as imposed by the trial court on April 20.
The Court has also directed the Mumbai Police Commissioner to look into the matter.
A division bench of Chief Justice Swatantra Kumar and Justice S C Dharmadhikari directed the investigating officer in the case to submit an affidavit affirming whether compensation had been disbursed among the injured persons and kin of the deceased.
The court has adjourned the matter till June 6 as Pereira could not arrange for a counsel. The court also directed Pereira to remain present in the court on the next date of hearing.
Pereira been sentenced to six months simple imprisonment by the lower court for killping seven persons and injuring eight others due to negligent driving.
