Arjun Singh not averse to becoming Vice-President
New Delhi, May 3 (UNI) Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh is not averse to the idea of becoming Vice-President of the country if the Congress top leadership so decides.
''My wish is to serve the Congress and I will accept any role given to me by the party,'' Mr Singh said, replying to a specific query from mediapersons.
He was asked for his reaction about the reported plan by his party to propose his name for the Vice-President's office.
The veteran Congress leader said he was a committed worker and would continue ''to work for the party and the country so long as he is given the opportunity''.
Mr Singh's remark came a day after Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat said he had not made up his mind yet on contesting the President's post but would take a final decision if political parties approached him..
He, however, pointed out that his election as the Vice President had shown that he ''has friends in all parties.'' President APJ Abdul Kalam's term comes to an end in July.
