Anna varsity's Vision 2020 for high-tech academic activities

Chennai, May 3 (UNI) Anna University, a premier technical varsity in the country, has embarked on Vision 2020 to carry out high-tech academic activities at an estimated cost of Rs 600 crore in a phased manner, Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister K Ponmudi told the State Assembly today.

Moving the demand for grants for his department, he said that during the next five years, the development of Anna University would reach greater heights, placing the State atop the academic map of developed universities in the world.

Mr Ponmudi said a gallery on ocean technology would be established in the current year in collaboration with the National Institute of Ocean Technology at a cost of Rs 40 lakhs.

A State-level renewable energy park would be established with financial assistances from the Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources at a cost of Rs 1.24 crore, the Minister said.

Apart from taking steps for providing quality higher education, the Government was keen to raise the gross enrolment ratio in higher education to 25 per cent by 2020 from the present level of 11.7 per cent as against the national average of 9.21 per cent, he said.
