ALL Delhi monuments to be illuminated before 2010 Games

New Delhi, May 3 (UNI) The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has identified 46 centrally-protected monuments in Delhi for repairs, upgradation, illumination, provision of amenities, environment development in view of the Commonwealth Games in 2010.

Culture and Tourism Minister Ambika Soni told the Lok Sabha today that the estimated requirement of funds for carrying out these works was Rs 23.39 crore.

"If the funds are made available, the work is expected to be completed by March, 2010," she said, in reply to written questions.

Ms Soni said, in reply to another set of queries, that foreign exchange of 9,10,080 US dollars (Rs 4,61,35,033) was earned from Qutab Minar and 3,06,588 US dollars (Rs 2,76,83,930) from Humayun's Tomb during 2006-07. These are the two Delhi-based monuments on the World Heritage List. India has a total of 21 monuments on the World Heritage List.
