Chennai, May 2 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government will set up four new Industrial Estates in the State, Rural Industries Minister ''Pongalur'' N Palanisamy told the State Assembly today.
Replying to the demand for grants for his department, he said the new industrial estates, to be constructed by the Small Industries Development Corporation, would come up at Pollupalli and Bargur in Krishnagiri district, Oragadam (Kancheepuram) and Elambalur (Perambalur).
While SIDCO had received 160 offer letters with commitment charges from SSI units to start industries in Pollupalli, it would develop 100 tiny plots in 19 acre lands at a cost of Rs 93 lakh to encourage Micro enterprise.
In Oragadam, the estate would be set up in a 100 acre area and in Elambalur at a 44.48 acre space.
Mr Palanisamy said feasibility reports would be obtained for setting up new Industrial Estates at Sankagiri (Salem), Modakurichi (Erode), Sedapatti (Madurai) and Sholingur (vellore).
The minister said during the current year, steps would be taken to upgrade the Industrial estates at Katpadi, Tiruvannamalai, Cuddalore, Pilliarpatti, mathur, Konam, Vadalur, from SIDCO's own funds.
SIDCO would also upgrade the estates at Ariyamangalam, Theni and Dharmpuri at a cost of Rs 100 lakh with assistance from the State government.
Upgradation works at Dindigul, Pudukottai, Krishnagiri, Karur, Tiruppur, Tiruchengode, Namakkal, Kosakulam Pudur, Salem and Erode, taken up at a cost of Rs 281.25 lakh, would be completed this year.
The Minister said as part of rejuvenating the Cooperative tea sector in the Nilgiris district, the government would improve traditional practices in the maintenance of tea gardens and take steps to icrease the yield per acre, regulate and standardise green leaf collection mechanisms, improve the process and quality management in tea factories and also improve the marketing of the tea.
