Three injured in Asom militant attack

Silchar, May 1 (UNI) Three passengers, including a woman, were injured tonight when suspected militants fired at a Mizoram-bound Tata Sumo at Bhaicherra in Hailakandi district of Asom near Mizoram border.

Police said a group of suspected Bru (Reang) militants, armed with automatic weapons fired indiscriminately at the vehicle while it was passing through Bhaicherra, a hilly area about 150 km from here, on NH-154.

Three passengers, including a woman, were injured in the attack, they added.

The injured are undergoing treatment at a local hospital, the police said.

Among them, two were residents of Mizoram and another belonged to Hailakandi district of Asom.

The vehicle was on its way to Bhairavi in Mizoram from Hailakandi, the police said.

Soon after the incident, a contingent of police and CRPF personnel, led by Hailakandi SP Ananda Mohan Tiwari, rushed to the spot and launched the operation to nab the miscreants.

The Mizoram Police also joined the operation, the police said.
