SBM Officer convicted in CBI case

Bangalore, May 2 (UNI) A senior officer of the State Bank of Mysore has been convicted to two year simple imprisonment by a Special Judge hearing CBI cases on the charges of cheating the bank over Rs.18.80 lakhs.

Mr C V Krishnamurthy, a former Manager of Pattadur Branch of the Bank in Chikmagalur district had allegedly entered into a criminal conspiracy with Daya Pereira and unauthorisedly permitted him to withdraw the amount through cash and demand drafts by providing him overdraft facility. CBI had registered a criminal case in July 1994 and filed the chargesheet in March 1996. The case was first heard by the Principal District Judge of Mysore and later transferred to 32nd Additional City and civil and Sessions judge here who is also the special judge to hear CBI Cases. Mr Krishnamurthy is currently Asst. Manager of SBM in Harihar.

Thirty second Additional City Civil and Sessions and Special Judge for CBI cases Narasimha Kulkarni found Mr Krishnamurthy guilty and in the judgement delivered on April 30. Besides imprisonment he was also fined Rs 10,000.

CBI was on the lookout for the second accused Daya Pereira who is reported absconding. A reward of Rs 15,000 has been announced by the CBI Director to the informants for providing information leading to his arrest.
