Moscow, May 2: A radio-controlled bomb killed two policemen on the outskirts of the Chechen capital Grozny yesterday, a source in the law enforcement agencies told Interfax news agency today.

''The police were killed by a radio-controlled explosion placed at the entrance to a road bridge over a railway track,'' the source told Interfax.

An attack last month in the same area of Grozny injured six policemen at a checkpoint.

Chechen rebels have fought two wars against Russia in the southern Russian republic since 1994.

The Kremlin says the war is virtually over and its military is mopping up the remaining insurgents, but attacks have increased in frequency over the last few weeks. On Friday a Russian helicopter was shot down killing at least 18 soldiers and crew.
