Pakistan militants behead man accused of being US spy
ISLAMABAD, May 2 (Reuters) Suspected pro-Taliban militants beheaded a man near the Afghan border after accusing him of being a US informer, a Pakistani intelligence official said today.
Militants in North and South Waziristan have killed dozens of people they accused of being Pakistani government supporters or spies for US forces fighting in neighbouring Afghanistan.
The body of the beheaded man was found in Gurwag village, 60 km west of Miranshah, the main town in the North Waziristan region, which is a hotbed of Islamist support.
A note pinned to the body accused the man of spying for the US forces fighting Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan, said the official, who declined to be identified.
The killing came less than a week after three suspected Islamist militants were killed in an explosion in Saidgai village near Miranshah that officials in the region said was caused by a missile fired from a US drone.
The Pakistani military said the militants were killed when explosives they were using to make bombs went off accidentally.
Many Taliban militants and foreign al Qaeda members fled into Pakistan's semi-autonomous tribal regions after US-led forces ousted the radical Taliban regime in Afghanistan in 2001.
