Nine killed, 25 injured as bus plunges into rivulet

Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, May 2 (UNI) Nine people, including two women and as many children, were killed and 25 others injured when a State-owned bus plunged into a 20-feet rivulet from a bridge at Chikati Eegalapalem village near Vinukonda in this district, early today.

Police said while seven passengers were killed on the spot, two succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital. The bus was proceeding to Vinjamuru village in Nellore district from Armuru in Nizamabad district.

The driver, who was among the injured and admitted to Vinukonda Government Hospital, told reporters that the accident occurred when he lost control of the bus after one of the front tyres burst.

Eight passengers, who were critically injured, were rushed to the Government General Hospital here.

State Ports Minister M V Ramana Rao and Handlooms Minister M Hanumantha Rao visited the injured at the hospital.
