Modi lays foundation stones for two projects in Gujarat

Gandhinagar, May 2 (UNI) Chief Minister Narendra Modi laid foundation stones of two mega projects in Gujarat on the occasion of the 48th Foundation Day, which is celebrated as 'Gaurav Din' in the state on May 1 every year.

This year, the state government celebrated the Gaurav Din 2007 at Junagadh.

Mr Modi laid a foundation stone of Rs 15 crore project providing drinking water to people of eight villages, including the Junagadh city, yesterday. He also a laid a foundation stone of Rs 70 crore Girnar Rope Way Project augmenting the facilities at the famous tourist place, an official release said here today.

He announced that the state government would provide a grant of Rs one crore each to Municipalities, rural areas and Municipal Corporation of Junagadh.

The Chief Minister also announced that his government would generate about one lakh employment opportunities to urban youths under ''Ummid Project''.

Mr Modi told the gathering that the recent memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed to set up an ambitious amusement park at Junagadh would be a great attraction for the tourists.

In another programme, the Chief Minister gave away Gujarati film awards to best film producers, best directors, best actors, singers and artistes.

He also gave away Municipal best service award to fire brigade personnel for their outstanding performance.

On the occasion, Gujarat Governor Naval Kishore Sharma released a book 'Sorath Dhara Sohamani', depicting the history and development of the district, published by state information department, the release added.
