Aurangabad, Maharashtra, May 2 (UNI) A sharp decline in humidity in and around the city has resulted into temperatures soaring with the mercury touching its peak in the current summer yesterday.

The city recorded 43 degrees celsius yesterday, which is the highest so far in the current season. Temperature in this historic city otherwise has been hovering above 42 degrees celsius during the last three days.

According to sources in the Met office here, the city had recorded 40 degrees celsius on the same day last year, while in the year 2005, the maximum temperature on May 1 had been 38 degrees.

Talking to UNI, Mr Shrinivas Aundkar, Director MGM Centre for Astronomy and Space Technology here, attributed the rising temperature to the sharp decline in the humidity.

According to him, Aurangabad city had recorded a humidity of 38 per cent when the temperature touched a high of 46 degrees celsius in 2001.

However, the present humidity is about 18 per cent, and the temperature is hovering above 42 degrees celsius.

Mr Aundkar ruled out further rise in the temperature and predicted timely rainfall this year. He said the weather conditions indicate a good rainfall, but the number of rainfall hours may be less this time.
