Lord Buddha teachings should be followed: Kalam
Kushinagar/Pratapgarh, May 2 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam today emphasised the relevance of the principles of Lord Buddha saying, they would help in the spread of peace and hapiness.
''People should follow the preaching of Lord Buddha. They could bring peace and happiness in our lives,'' the President said in the celebration ceremony of the 2550th Jayanti of Lord Buddha in 'Mahaparinirvaan Mandir' premises in Kushinagar district.
Addressing the ceremony, Dr Kalam observed that 'mean mentality' was the root cause of grief, therefore, we should get above all this.
''Inner beauty is the real beauty of humankind, that is reflected in the nature of person,'' he added.
Terming the occasion as the right time to follow the preaching of Lord Buddha, Dr Kalam also issued postal stamps in His memory.
Meanwhile, people of Kapilavastu --- the birth place of Lord Buddha --- celebrated the Jayanti with fevour.
On his day-long visit, the President also released a 'Pali-Hindi' dictionary and visited 'Ramabhaar Stupa'.
After inaugrating a Thai Hospital, Dr Kalam left for Pratapgarh, where he was welcomed by UP Governor T V Rajeswar.
The President met the children and administered them a six-point oath for composite development.
He also visited the Amla Orchard and Integrated Production exhibition organised by Indian Agro Industries.
Dr Kalam also spared time to visit a cattle fair.
