Lalu draws flak for '' U '' turn on emergency

Patna, May 2 (UNI) Finding a contrast between two products of JP movement--Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad, JD(U) spokesman Shivanand Tiwari today said that Mr Kumar was committed to ideology of veteran socialist leader Jai Prakash Narain, while Mr Prasad had allegedly justified the emergency, remembered as a ''blot'' on Indian democracy.

In a release issued here, Mr Tiwari said the ''U-turn'' of Mr Prasad for justifying the imposition of emergency to enforce discipline in administration and the society was ''ridiculous''.

''It was an attempt of Mr Prasad to appease the Congress leadership,'' he alleged.

''On one hand Mr Kumar is felicitating those who had participated in JP movement launched for total revolution and against misrule of the erstwhile Congress regime, while on the other hand Mr Prasad had crossed all limits of sycophancy in justifying the Emergency imposed by the erstwhile Congress regime in 1975,'' he noted, adding by his observation, Mr Prasad had hurt the feelings of thousands of workers and leaders who devoted prime time of their lives in struggle to save democratic rights of the people.
