IPS officer supporter threatens self-immolation, arrested

Jaipur, May 2 (UNI) An agitator demanding the release of IPS officer Dinesh M N, arrested for alleged involvement in a fake encounter case, has been taken into custody following threats of self-immolation in Udaipur district.

Sant Kartar Singh of Parsad village under Risabhdev police station, along with a group of villagers had been protesting since April 26, demanding release of the officer, held for allegedly killing extortionist Sohrabbuddin in a fake encounter.

Dinesh was the SP in Udaipur district when the encounter took place on November 26, 2005.

The protestors, had threatened self-immolation by Kartar Singh on May 2 near the local bus stand at around 1600 hours, if Dinesh was not released by May 1.

As a precautionary measure, police arrested Kartar Singh last night under Section 151 CrPC.

Udaipur district observed a bandh in support of the IPS officer yesterday.
