Government to set up Tamil Classical Research Centre

Chennai, May 2 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government would set up a Tamil Classical Research Centre at a cost of Rs 150 crore, Finance Minister K Anbazhagan told the State Assembly today.

Replying to the demand for grants for Tamil development, he said the Centre would be set up, consequent to the Union government according classical language status to Tamil.

He said the state had sought an allocation of Rs 150 crore for setting up the research centre and for the infrastructural facilities. The Centre would promote Tamil language globally.

Mr Anbazhagan said the government was also taking steps to make Tamil as the official language.
